Mitchell Lavell Calvin, 76, of Ashland passed away at his home, lovingly cared for by his family, on November 19, 2025.

Mitchell was born in Columbia on October 30, 1949, a son of Ira Turner Calvin and Clara Belle Rippeto Calvin. He married Gail Belcher on June 8, 1969, in Ashland. Mitchell was employed as an engineer in the telecommunications industry for many years prior to his retirement.

Mitchell loved his family and especially enjoyed keeping up with his grandchildren’s sporting events and activities. His favorite activities included playing golf, watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball, traveling, hunting and fishing and was known for his talent as a great DIYer. Mitchell served as a deacon at Goshen Primitive Baptist Church where he was a dedicated active member.

Those cherishing his memory include his wife, Gail Calvin; his children, Missy (Brian) Kirmse, Dena (Scott) Stratman and Brice (Meaghan) Calvin; grandchildren, Alex, Layton, Maggie, Lyla, Holly, Teagan, Dalaigh, Cullen, Finnegan, Rowan and Grady; sister, Shirley Nichols and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mitchell was preceded in death by his brothers, Leon (Lola) Calvin and Leroy (Doris) Calvin and brother-in-law, Harold Nichols.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 24, 2025, at Goshen Primitive Baptist Church from 3:00 to 6:00 PM. A funeral service honoring his life will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at the church at 2:00 PM with burial following at the church cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Goshen Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
