Matthew Charles Smith, age 59, of Ashland passed away at his home on November 7, 2024.

Matt was born in Columbia, MO on June 19, 1965, the son of Larry Dean and Mary Elizabeth (Davis) Smith. Matt, or as his friends and family called him “Good Ole Matt,” was employed with the University of Missouri his entire working career in Residential Life and Campus Facilities and was a 1984 graduate of Rock Bridge High School. He was beloved by his family, friends and coworkers. Matt enjoyed going fishing and was there to help friends and family with his time and talents. He especially loved spending time with his nieces and nephew.

He is survived by a sister Leigh Ann Smith and her husband Raymond Fisher of Clark, MO; three nieces Emberleigh, Ryleigh and Lilliegh; a nephew J.J.; uncle and aunt James and Dorothy Davis of Ashland; an aunt Rose Baker of Jefferson City; his best friends Richard and Sean and numerous cousins.

Matt was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service honoring Matt’s life will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at Nashville Baptist Church near Ashland. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial will follow next to his parents at Nashville Baptist Church Cemetery following the services.
