Obituary

Kenneth Taylor, 78, of Columbia, Missouri, passed away on April 24, 2026.

Kenneth was born in Columbia, son of Allen and Ella B. Taylor, on June 15, 1947. He built a life rooted in hard work, dedication, and love for his family.

Kenneth was a graduate of Hickman High School and Linn Technical College. He then went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Navy Seabees, enlisting in 1967. During his service, Kenneth spent time in Vietnam, Cuba, and Puerto Rico. He often wrote home to have his sister write to the servicemen that were not receiving mailcall, so they were not left out.

After returning home, Kenneth began a long and dedicated career as a semi-truck driver and mechanic with W.B. Smith, where he worked for 36 years. Over the course of his career, he drove an incredible 2.5 million miles without incident- a true testament to his skill, focus, and strong work ethic. Throughout those years, he took pride in operating three new trucks, each one reflecting his commitment to excellence on the road. In his spare time, Kenneth enjoyed woodworking, drag racing, rodeos, tractor pulls, fishing, and tinkering on cars. He also enjoyed spending time on the lake with his family- simple pleasures that brought him happiness and reflected his hands-on nature.

Following his retirement, Kenneth continued to stay busy by assisting his son, Mitch, in the shop; something he truly enjoyed.

Kenneth is survived by his son, Mitchell Taylor (Amber Taylor); his beloved granddaughter, Haley Taylor; his companion, Linda Salmon; his sister, Marsue Hawkins (Greg Hawkins); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Ella B. Taylor; his brother, David Taylor; and his niece, Stacie Bachtel Reynolds.

Kenneth will be remembered for his quiet strength, dedication to his family, and a lifetime of hard work. He leaves behind a legacy of integrity and perseverance that will not be forgotten.

In Lieu of Flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Liberty Baptist Church in Hartsburg, Missouri on June 20, 2026 at 2pm.

Robinson-Yager Funeral Home is honored to serve the Taylor Family.
