Jennifer "Jenny" Jane Sennott

August 9, 1950 — April 26, 2024

Centralia, Missouri

Jennifer (Jenny) Jane Sennott, 73, of Centralia, passed away suddenly on April 26, 2024.

Jenny was born to Harry and Anita Sennott in Waterloo, Illinois, on August 9, 1950. The oldest of five children, she grew up first in Wichita, Kansas, and Kansas City, Missouri, and later in the western suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. She attended Glenbard East High School in Lombard, Illinois, and graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1972.

In the 1970s, Jenny and her first husband, Andrew Niekrasz, Sr., settled in Hartsburg, Missouri, where they raised two children, Anna and Andy, Jr. Jenny began teaching herself how to weave on a table loom and discovered she had found her calling—from then on, weaving was her passion and she immersed herself in learning all aspects of the craft.

Jenny taught weaving and spinning at Access Arts, a nonprofit arts school in Columbia, Missouri, for more than 30 years. Her weaving patterns and articles have appeared in Handwoven magazine and Little Looms; patterns for many of her designs, including the stunning In the Pines table runner and Moscow Nights tea towels, are available online at Long Thread Media.

Jenny was a devoted and active member of the Columbia Weavers and Spinners’ Guild until her death. Every year, she created beautiful, intricately woven towels and other items for the Guild’s popular fall sale. Friends and family were often lucky recipients of Jenny’s weavings as well and will treasure her work for years to come.

In 2003, Jenny married her second husband, Wayne "Pfef" Pfeffer. An avid knitter and spinner, Pfef shared Jenny’s love of all things fiber (or, as she put it on her Ravelry profile page, “the whole fiber calamity”). They enjoyed many happy years of weaving, spinning, knitting, teaching, and learning together, as well as traveling; a favorite destination was the Scott Joplin Ragtime Festival in Sedalia, Missouri. Jenny also enjoyed bird watching, gardening, bicycling, raising Angora rabbits, and baking bread; she passed on her love of baking to daughter Anna, who amazes friends and family with her delicious creations.

She was predeceased by her second husband, Wayne Pfeffer; her parents; and sister Jackie Churchill (Andy).

She leaves behind first husband Andrew Niekrasz, Sr.; children Anna Haley (Dustin) and Andrew Niekrasz, Jr. (Danielle); siblings Bonnie, Betsey, and Tom (Alice); grandchildren Alex and Damon; and many friends and extended family members.

Jenny was a natural-born teacher, patient and always generous in sharing her knowledge. She will be remembered by all who knew her for her kind and gentle nature.

For those wishing to make memorial donations in Jenny’s honor, the family suggests giving to Columbia Weavers and Spinners’ Guild (nohttps://cwsgcomo.org/join-us/) or the Alzheimer’s Association (act.alz.org).
