Gary Gene George, 74, of Hartsburg, passed away on September 11, 2026, at the University of Missouri Hospital. He was born January 12, 1952, in Slater, Missouri, to the late Wallace and Lucille (Ridge) George. He married Eunice Fox on October 31, 1976, who survives him. This year would have marked 50 years of marriage. Together, they had two children, Eric and Angela. 

Gary proudly served our nation in the United States Navy. He worked for the University of Missouri for over 20 years until his retirement in 2017. He was a member of the Hartsburg Lions Club and the American Legion Post 424. Gary was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed river fishing and running trotlines. He loved to cook and was famous for his buttery hot wings, among many other things. Above all else, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and he “never let the truth get in the way of a good story.” Gary will be remembered by all who knew him for his sense of humor, hilarious stories, and willingness to help in any situation.

Gary is survived by his wife, Eunice George; son, Eric (Cathy) George; daughter, Angela (Mike) Redington; three grandchildren, Chase, Ethan, and Ryan Redington; brother, Wally (CJ) George; and many other dearly loved family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Ric George, and two sisters, Judy George and infant sister Jana George. 

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at Robinson-Yager Funeral Home on Thursday, September 17th from 5-7 p.m. 

Gary cared deeply about the Lions Club’s eye research program, and became a cornea donor upon his death. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Lions Eye Research Bank or the Hartsburg American Legion Post 424.
