Carol Louise Skinner

September 2, 1935 — December 10, 2025

Columbia, Missouri

Carol Louise Skinner, 90, of Columbia, Missouri moved to her heavenly home on December 10, 2025.

Carol was born on September 2, 1935, to William Lawson and Adah Catherine (Browning) Evans. She and her two sisters, Deloris Halterman and Eileen Shoffner, grew up on a farm east of Cairo, MO. She was a proud basketball playing Bearcat during her high school years. After graduating in 1953, Carol attended one year of post-high school in Kirksville, MO with plans to follow in her mother’s footsteps to become a teacher. She then decided not to pursue the educational field.

On December 17, 1954, she married Richard Allen Skinner and they were blessed to raise four children; Dennis (Carol) Skinner, Ashland, MO; Cynthia (Dennis) Hartman, Hartsburg, MO; Susan Skinner, Columbia, MO; and Sharon (Ronnie) Basinger, Ashland, MO. Their lives together began in Clark, MO, then moved to Columbia, MO and then Ashland, MO where they settled in for the last 52 years.

Carol loved living in the country and enjoyed raising chickens, vegetables, and flowers. She had been an active member of the Ashland Garden Club for many years and was a 65-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, joining the Clark Chapter #396 in 1960, and affiliating with the Ashland Chapter #309 in 2003. She held various positions in both organizations, most notably President in the Ashland Garden Club and Worthy Matron in the Order of Eastern Star #309. Other things she enjoyed doing throughout her life were cooking and baking, sewing, bowling, reading, playing cards and board games, attending family members ball games and events, listening to classic country music, attending church, and traveling.

Throughout Carol’s busy life her greatest joy was spending time with her four children, seven grandchildren; Mary (Tommy) Haskamp, Ashland; Sarah (Dwayne) Kimbrel, Ashland; Andrew (Anne) Reeder, Columbia; Erica (Tom) Walker, Holts Summit; Lucus Hartman, Hartsburg; Justin (Laurese) Basinger, Hartsburg; and Brittany (T.J.) Keilholz, Loose Creek; 19 great-grandchildren; Abby, Riley, Olivia, Liam, Payton, Owen, Jackson, Grace, Blake (Mercedes), Brent, Cameron, Hayden, Sophia, Alice, Anthony, Tucker, Justin Allen, Beckett, and Dawson; three great-great grandchildren; Daxton, Quentin, Brielle.

Carol will be remembered for her unwavering kindness, gentle spirit, and deep love for her family and friends. Her warm smile and generous heart touched everyone she met, creating lasting memories for all who knew her.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband Richard, daughter Mary Louise, grandson Andrew Reeder, parents Lawson and Adah Evans, mother-in-law Mary Davison, sister Eileen Shoffner, and brothers-in-law Jerry Halterman and Byron Shoffner.
