Betty Lois (Smith) Black, of Ashland, passed away on February 9, 2026, at Westlake Assisted Living in Commerce, Michigan at the age of 93.
Betty was born in rural Ashland on September 24, 1932, a daughter of Roy and Margaret Gilpin Smith. She married Bob Black on March 21, 1953, in Harrison, Arkansas and he preceded her in death.
Betty was a member of the Parkade Baptist Church in Columbia. Prior to retirement, she was employed at Fort Leonard Wood Credit Union. Betty’s favorite activities included dancing and playing cards. She also organized senior bus trips for many years and was a member and former president of the Ashland Senior Center.
Betty is lovingly remembered by her son, Brent Black and wife, Sandy; a brother, Jim Smith and wife, Donna; a sister, Carol Lewis and husband, Richard and grandchildren, Charles Lee-Major and Jordan Roy Black and great-grandson, Oliver Joseph Black.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her special friend and companion, Frank Burkett.
Services honoring Betty’s life will be held at 3:00 PM, Friday, March 6, 2026, at Little Bonne Femme Baptist Church, 5350 E. Bonne Femme Church Road, Columbia, Missouri 65201, with her brother, Rev. Jim Smith officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 PM Thursday at the church.
Burial will follow at Little Bonne Femme Cemetery near Columbia.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Ashland Senior Center or to Little Bonne Femme Cemetery.
